Geetha Madhuri Itty: Avid Reader

When not hard at work, Geetha Madhuri Itty likes to spend some quiet time reading an enjoyable book. For Geetha Madhuri Itty, reading and her love of Scrabble have gone hand in hand. Through learning new words to become a better Scrabble player, Geetha Madhuri Itty has also increased her ability to devour a book in just a day. Geetha Madhuri Itty loves reading because she gets the rare opportunity to escape into another world and to let her imagination roam free. Reading is one of Geetha Madhuri Itty’s favorite pastimes and she recalls spending many nights reading her sons bedtime stories.

Geetha Madhuri Itty’s favorite subjects include mysteries, fiction, and history. While mysteries and fiction have the ability to inspire imagination, history provides the opportunity to learn how and why civilization as we know it came to be. The ability to place herself in a former time period is thrilling for Geetha Madhuri Itty. In addition to her natural curiosity, the fact that Geetha Madhuri Itty was raised in Iowa plays a large role in her love of history. Particularly interested in local Native American history, Geetha Madhuri Itty enjoys taking day trips, when she can, to local museums.

In an effort to encourage her sons to have a healthy imagination, Geetha Madhuri Itty has been adamant about emphasizing the importance of reading during her sons’ lives. While both are still in high school, Geetha Madhuri Itty’s sons credit their creative abilities (one is a songwriter, the other an aspiring journalist) to their mother’s insistence on reading every day. Since her sons are now growing up and gaining independence, Geetha Madhuri Itty has been focusing more on her personal interest in reading. After recently starting a local book club, Geetha Madhuri Itty has connected with others in the community who share her passion for delving into a good book.
