Geetha Madhuri Itty’s home state of Iowa has an interesting history that played an integral role in America becoming the nation it is today. Initially possessing a high population of Native Americans, Iowa’s ownership has passed through many hands before becoming the state it is today.

An established part of America’s Corn Belt, Iowa’s history is as interesting and varied as that of America itself. Prior to the establishment of Iowa as an official state, it was heavily occupied by Native Americans before French settlers took control of the land. By being a student of history, Geetha Madhuri Itty learned that her home state of Iowa possessed a colorful past. Although not officially becoming the territory of Iowa until the 1830s, the land itself has been host to many skirmishes in which people have lost their lives.

Geetha Madhuri Itty views her study of history as a means of paying homage to those that came before her, by not forgetting their role in the development of the nation she loves. In an effort to inspire a fondness for history in her two sons, Geetha Madhuri Itty sets aside time to accompany her family to local museums. In learning about the past, Geetha Madhuri Itty insists that we, as humans, can help to ensure a healthy future.
